What is the Jaipur Tiger Festival & When is it Held?

Jaipur Tiger Festival, popularly known as JTF, is a unit of Rajasthan Heritage, Art, and Cultural Foundation that utilizes its resources and initiatives for wildlife and tiger conservation. More than 100 photographers exhibit their work at the Jaipur Elephant Festival. These displays give attention ownership and wonder to the animals so that people will love and care for elephants. The program also offers free health camps, provides dialogue forums, and extends financial support to those in constant need.

Goals of the Jaipur Tiger Festival

  • To create love, compassion, and empathy towards tigers in people’s minds.
  • To reduce the factors that lead to the depletion of tigers.
  • To work for wildlife and forest conservation
  • To organize welfare activities for the forest persons and their families.
  • To provide information on wildlife measures
  • To regulate and Standardize tourism activities 
  • To assist patrol and protection of tiger habitat
  • To organize various workshops, seminars, lectures, and exhibitions to award/felicitations for the awareness of wildlife and flora and fauna.

Project Tiger: A Lifeline for Tigers

The government of India initiated the project and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in response to the alarming decline in the tiger population due to habitat loss, poaching, and other factors.

Project Tiger has been Converted into a sanctuary authority National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) by providing enabling provisions in the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 through an amendment. Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2006.

55 protected areas have been designated as tiger reserve. As of 2023, there were 3682 wild tigers with an annual growth rate of 6.1% In India, which is almost 75% of the world’s wild tiger population. The four highest tiger population states are Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra in descending order.

Exploring Rajasthan’s Tiger Sanctuaries

Rajasthan has 5 Tiger Sanctuaries: Ranthambore National Park (Sawai Madhopar), Sariska Tiger Reserve (Alwar), Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (Kota), Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve (Bundi), and Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve (Karauli).
